Congratulations to Cece McEachern, recipient of the 2013 Maine YMCA Citizenship Award. This award is presented annually at the State Championship Swim Meet to the young woman and young man who best exemplify the ideals of YMCA competitive swimming and the characteristics of a true YMCA participant. According to the nomination form, “This is not a high point award, but rather a tribute to two young YMCA athletes who stand head and shoulders above the rest of the pack by virtue of attitude, team spirit and dedication to their team, community, and YMCA.” A strong consideration is given to an athlete who provides encouragement, inspiration, and guidance to those whose lives they touch. Cece, the daughter of Steve and Sue McEachern of Ellsworth, is a senior at Ellsworth High School and is headed to college in the fall to study engineering and compete in swimming. The award, which includes a $500 scholarship, was presented at the senior session of the Maine YMCA State Championships held last weekend at the University of Maine, Orono. Cece is the 3rd Dolphin to win the award. Amy Dalrymple won the award in 2006 and Brian Batson won the award in 2009. Madison Luck of the MDI YMCA Sharks was the male recipient of the award this year.
