Moore Center Updates & Drop-Off Procedure

Childcare: June 1st to June 29th Safety Protocols

Only staff and enrolled children will be allowed entry into the building.
  • During the month of June, the YMCA child care facilities are only for children enrolled in care and staff. All parents and guardians will drop off and pick up at the front door of our facility (Moore or Beechland).
Full screening of all children and staff each day for symptoms of COVID-19.

Screenings will include:            

  • Fever of 100.4° or above
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle pain (not exercise related)
  • Loss of taste or smell

Screening Questions to be asked upon entry:

  • Do you have any of the following symptoms: Fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath? (If yes to any, no entry.)
  • Have you been in contact with anyone with a confirmed case of COVID-19? (If yes, ask next questions.)
  • Have you completed a 14-day stay-at-home quarantine since this contact? (If no, no entry.)
  • Have you traveled out of the state recently? (If yes, ask next question.)
  • Have you completed a 14-day stay-at-home quarantine since arriving back in the state? (If no, no entry.)
Strict health policy for staff and children that will require absence or to be sent home if any of the listed symptoms are present.
  • Staff or child displaying symptoms of COVID-19 will not be permitted to attend and must be symptom free for 24 hours with no medication.
  • Children will be required to stay home if a sibling or parent is ill.
  • If symptoms develop during the day, staff or child will be sent home immediately.
Drop off/ Pick up procedures to prevent anyone from entering the childcare buildings other than staff and children and to promote social/physical distancing.
  • Drop off and pick up will take place outside of the childcare buildings.
  • A limited number of parents/guardians will be permitted to wait in the designated area at the Moore Center. 6 foot separation between families will be required.
  • Beechland Center will utilize the foyer and the circular drop off area for waiting families.
  • A sign will be placed on the outside door with instructions for drop off or pick up in the absence of a staff person.
  • All car seats are to be left in cars. If this is not possible, they can be left in the vestibules of each building.
  • Only required items for your child may be dropped off and we are asking that nap items not go back and forth each day but be sent home at the end of the week.
Limited sharing of staff among the programs
  • Children will be with their classroom or program teachers with limited crossover for staff, unless necessary for state regulations.
Limited combining of classrooms and programs
  • No combining of programs unless necessary.
Shared spaces will be used on a strict schedule to allow for detailed cleaning between uses
  • Gym use will be for school aged children only (Moore Center).
  • Romper room and Adventure room will be used on a schedule with deep cleaning between each use.
Increased hand washing for all children and staff in addition to regular practices.
  • Hand washing will occur frequently throughout the day.
  • Hands will be washed upon arrival prior to starting the day.
Moore Center Food Program will not utilize the cafeteria.
  • All children will eat in their classroom.
  • Delivery of food and pick up of dishes will take place on a strict schedule to minimize the number of staff in/out of the kitchen.
  • Meals will be pre-plated.
All adults are asked to wear face coverings.
  • During pick up and drop off and throughout the day when social distancing is not possible, all staff will wear face coverings.
  • Adults dropping off and picking up children should be wearing face coverings.
Additional cleaning practices will be practiced throughout the day.
  • Items in common areas such as door handles will be cleaned frequently throughout the day.
  • Classroom tables and counters will be cleaned after every use.
  • Total building disinfecting will occur nightly or as needed.
Confirmed case of COVID-19 protocol:
  • If a case of COVID-19 is confirmed in a classroom there will be a minimum of a 24 hour shut down of all contaminated areas for deep cleaning and sanitizing.
  • All CDC guidelines will be followed.

Monday – Friday: 5:30 am – 7:00 pm 
Saturday: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Sunday: Closed

We are holding fitness classes and our weight room and cardio room are available for use by members and by those paying the daily user fee. Workout equipment has been moved throughout the building to accommodate social distancing while working out. 

Members and those paying a daily user fee are allowed entry.
  • No reciprocity at this time (except MDI YMCA).
  • Covid-19 waiver must be signed prior to entry.
  • New membership sales are allowed.
  • Daily user fees are allowed. 
Guidelines limit the number allowed in the facility at one time.
  • Members and daily users will be allowed one hour of access per day.
  • Entry is on a first come first serve basis.
All persons who enter the facility will be subject to a touch-free temperature check and will be required to answer screening questions.
  • Face Coverings are required for entry into all YMCA Buildings. During exercise, face coverings are optional.
  • No entry for temperatures 100.4 or greater.

  • Stations are available throughout building.
Only adults & families will be allowed entry.
  • Persons ages 16 and older will be allowed in the facility independently.
  • Children ages 13 – 16 years and older can be in fitness areas with a parent or caregiver and must be in the same areas of the facility as their parent or caregiver.
  • Children under the age of 13 will not be allowed entry.
Members will be asked to follow the physical distancing code of conduct
  • All staff will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (Masks or Face shields) unless they are in a room working independently.
  • Members are required to wear face coverings upon entry and in common areas.
  • A 6-foot distance is required between all persons within the facility.
  • A front desk barrier is in place to protect staff and members.
  • Members are to use floor markings to maintain distance from staff.
  • No social seating is allowed. Chairs are available for physical limitations and footwear changes only.
  • Hygiene expectations are posted in the lobby upon entrance and throughout active areas of the facility.
  • Code of Conduct instructions are posted clearly in lobby.
  • Code of Conduct instructions are reviewed with all members upon entry and at beginning of classes.
Guidelines require that we limit the number of people in each area of the facility. Some equipment has been moved to different rooms to meet the guidelines.

Weight Room

  • Maximum number of people in room: 10

  • 5 people allowed on each side of the weight room. (5 on left side, 5 on right side) 

  • All equipment must be cleaned before and after each use using provided wipes and/or spray bottles of cleaner and paper towels

  • No supersets- please work at one machine at a time

  • Ex. Enter one area, clean it, perform set(s), clean and leave that machine

  • There are no weight lifting sheets/ clipboard or pencils provided

Cardio Room

  • Maximum number of people: 7

  • Selective equipment might be closed to ensure physical distancing

  • All equipment must be cleaned by each person before and after use

  • Equipment available for use in this room is:

    • Treadmill – 1, 3

    • Arc Trainer – 2, 4, 6

    • NuStep – 1, 2

TRX Room

  • Maximum number of people: 5

  • Each piece of equipment needs to be cleaned with wipes and/or spray cleaner and paper towels before and after each use

  • There are two sets of TRX straps for personal use. Please leave them where they are to ensure proper social distancing. 

  • Equipment available for use in this room are:

    • Upright bikes 3, 4, 5

    • Rower 1, 2

 Child Watch Area

  • Maximum number of people: 3

  • Each piece of equipment needs to be cleaned with wipes and/or spray cleaner and paper towels before and after each use. 

  • Equipment in this room:

    • #12 Pec/Rear Delt machine

    • #4 Chest Press

    • recumbent bike that was in weight room. 

Kaufman Room

  • Maximum number of people: 3

  • Each piece of equipment needs to be cleaned with wipes and/or spray cleaner and paper towels before and after each use. 

  • The climbing wall is closed until further notice. 

  • Equipment in this room:

    • #15 ab crunch

    • #7 tricep machine

    • Roman Chair

Small equipment has been moved to the gym until further notice. If no fitness class is in session, come on in and get what you need. 

Gym – Group Exercise Classes

  • Maximum number of people: 20

  • Gym will be closed to others during group exercise classes

  • Social distancing requirements for group exercise classes is 14 feet. Group fitness spots are spaced 14 feet apart. Continue to wear your mask until you are in your spot and please stay in your assigned area.

 Gym – Basketball Court

  • 1 person per hoop. Must use YMCA disinfected equipment.

  • 5 family members per hoop. Must use YMCA disinfected equipment. (Only individuals within the same household can share a hoop.)

  • Basketball is only allowed on the farther end of the gym to protect fitness equipment now stored in the gym. 

  • Basketball is only allowed when fitness classes are not in session. 

  • See front desk or other staff to get the curtain closed before starting to play basketball.

 Gym Cardio Equipment

  • Available in this room:

    • recumbent bikes 1, 2, 6

    • indoor cycle bikes

    • stair climber 1,2

    • hand cycle bike

Small (handheld) and group fitness class equipment is also being stored in the gym. If you want to use any, please clean before and after use with provided wipes and/or spray and return all equipment to gym shelving. 

Fitness classes follow CDC guidelines and require pre-registration. Here's what you need to know:
  • Fitness classes are limited to 19 participants and an instructor. 
  • Due to potential unseen risks associated with fitness and the current COVID-19 pandemic, members are required to sign a waiver prior to attending any outside class. A waiver will be provided at the class or you can download a waiver here and bring it to your first class or complete the Online Waiver Form (for Barcode, enter the number you use when entering the building). 
  • Signing up for classes is easy. To sign up, use the new DEFY APP or call the front desk 667-3086, Monday through Saturday. Learn about the DEFY APP here.  
  • Voicemail sign ups will not be taken. You must talk to someone on the phone at the number above. If you get an answering machine, try again, please!
  • If you need to cancel a class registration, call 667-3086 or cancel on the APP to remove your name from the class roster and open a spot for a fellow member. People who register and don’t show up without canceling will be prohibited from registering for future classes.
  • If space is not available in a class, you can add your name to a wait list using the App and you will be notified if a space becomes available prior to the start of the class. 
  • Classes will be held at the location of the instructor’s choice; either in our gym or in an outdoor fitness area.
  • Each member will have a designated space for working out and are spaced 14 feet apart. Members are to keep their mask on until they reach their space stay in that space before, during and after the class. 
  • As we move forward, we may adjust our guidelines to maintain the safety of our members and staff. 
The weight room and cardio room have been arranged to follow CDC guidelines.
  • Equipment has been arranged the proper distance apart. Please leave all equipment where it is currently located.
  • For weight room and non-heavy breathing cardio equipment, the distance between equipment is 6 feet. 
  • For heavy breathing cardio equipment, the spacing requirement is 14ft.

Phase Two

Limited Access with Programs TBD (Group Size Restriction TBD)  

Phase Two will be an advanced version of Phase One with some restrictions lifted; maximum number of persons per area potentially increased, and will possibly see the return of more group programming. Phase Two will be built off of the Phase One plan in real-time experience.

Pick Up & Drop Off

The YMCA’s number 1 priority is the safety of every child and staff person at Camp Discovery. The following procedures and or protocols follow the latest guidelines of the Maine CDC and recommendations from the Governor’s office and he YMCA’s insurance carrier.

Camp drop off and pick up:
  • Drop off and pick up will occur in the rear entry of the Moore Center. The purpose of the separate entry is to keep our populations using the Moore Center separated. The seniors with FIA, child care and camp each use their own entries and exits.
  • At drop off, each camper’s temperature will be taken. Any child with a temperature that exceeds 100.4° will not be permitted to enter camp that day. The following questions will be asked prior to entry:
    • Do you have any of the following symptoms: Fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath? (If yes to any, no entry.)
    • Have you been in contact with anyone with a confirmed case of COVID-19? (If yes, ask next question.)
      • Have you completed a 14-day stay-at-home quarantine since this contact? (If no, no entry.)
    • Have you traveled out of the state recently? If yes, ask next question.)
      • Have you completed a 14-day stay-at-home quarantine since arriving back in the state? (If no, no entry).
    • At drop off and pick up, we ask that only one person who is on the list of approved guardians come to the center’s entry.
Bus trip to and from Camp:
  • One child per seat. Family members can share a seat.
  • All children must wear face coverings while on the bus.
  • The bus will be disinfected after each use.
  • We ask that parents are prepared to pick their child up immediately when they arrive at the Moore Center. A timeline for arrival will be posted for families. This will keep our group size of children below recommended levels while pick up occurs.
Camp Day:
  • Campers will be divided into groups not to exceed 50. This group then divides to smaller groups not to exceed 12.
  • Campers will be asked to use face coverings when social distancing cannot occur.
  • The YMCA has established a number of outdoor handwashing stations strategically located throughout camp. All groups will wash their hands before activities begin and when activities are over. At the completion of all activities, equipment will be disinfectant and ready for the next group.
Lunchtime:
  • Campers will be processed through the food line by small groups. Each group will have designated lunch spots located outside.
  • Each group will wash their hands prior to forming the line for food.
  • Staff will place food on the trays for each camper. No self-serve.
Use of Camp buildings:
  • Buildings are only to be used on rainy days.
  • During rainy days campers will be scheduled to minimize contact.
  • Face covering will be utilized as appropriate – when social distancing cannot be achieved.
  • Facilities will have a consistent disinfecting schedule throughout the day

Camp Location:

This year, camp will be located at Bucksport’s Ice Rink facility. The camp will utilize:

  • Bucksport Ice shack – for indoor activities (limited), drop off and administration.
  • Ice rink area for games and activities
  • Practice football field
  • Outdoor volleyball court
  • Possible usage of Outdoor basketball court
  • Possible usage of the outdoor pool
  • Use of a local facility for significant weather days for the safety of all
Camp drop off and pick up:
  • Drop off & pick up will occur to the left of the Ice Rink Facility. Parents are requested to stay in their vehicle and staff will come to them for check in.
  • At drop off, each camper’s temperature will be taken. Any child with a temperature that exceeds 100.4° will not be permitted to enter camp that day. The following questions will be asked prior to entry:

Camp Facility:
  • Facilities will have a consistent disinfecting schedule throughout the day.
