Childcare Safety Protocols

Full screening of all children and staff each day for symptoms of COVID-19.

Screenings will include:            

  • Fever of 100.4° or above
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle pain (not exercise related)
  • Loss of taste or smell

Screening Questions to be asked upon entry:

  • Do you have any of the following symptoms: Fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath? (If yes to any, no entry.)
  • Have you been in contact with anyone with a confirmed case of COVID-19? (If yes, ask next questions.)
  • Have you completed a 14-day stay-at-home quarantine since this contact? (If no, no entry.)
  • Have you traveled out of the state recently? (If yes, ask next question.)
  • Have you completed a 14-day stay-at-home quarantine since arriving back in the state? (If no, no entry.)
Strict health policy for staff and children that will require absence or to be sent home if any of the listed symptoms are present.
  • Staff or children displaying symptoms of COVID-19 will not be permitted to attend.
  • Children will be required to stay home if a sibling or parent is ill.
  • If symptoms develop during the day, staff or children will be sent home immediately.
  • Staff or children with symptoms should consult their medical provider to determine if they are in need of COVID-19 testing.
  • Staff or children who are tested for COVID-19 may not return until a negative test result is returned.
  • Staff or children can return when they have been symptom free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication or with a doctor’s note and no fever.
  • Staff or enrolled children coming in close contact* with a positive case of COVID-19 must quarantine for 14 days regardless of a negative test result
  • *The CDC defines close contact as: ”someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic clients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.”

Drop off/Pick up procedures to promote social distancing:
  • During the winter months, we have made adjustments to allow families to enter our child care lobbies:
    • Moore Center atrium: Traffic pattern will be defined and enforced. Face coverings are required and hands must be sanitized prior to entry.
    • Beechland lobby: Traffic pattern will be defined and enforced. Face coverings are required and hands must be sanitized prior to entry.
  • The number of families permitted to enter the facilities at one time will be limited to allow for social distancing.
  • Families will NOT be permitted to enter the childcare wings.
  • All car seats are to be left in cars. If this is not possible they can be left in the vestibules of each building.
  • Only required items for your child may be dropped off. We are asking that nap items not go back and forth each day but be sent home at the end of the week.   
Limited sharing of staff among the programs
  • Children will be with their classroom or program teachers with limited crossover for staff, unless necessary for state regulations.
Limited combining of classrooms and programs
  • No combining of programs unless necessary.
Shared spaces will be used on a strict schedule to allow for detailed cleaning between uses
  • Gym use will be for school aged children only (Moore Center).
  • Romper room and Adventure room will be used on a schedule with deep cleaning between each use.
Increased hand washing for all children and staff in addition to regular practices.
  • Hand washing will occur frequently throughout the day.
  • Hands will be washed upon arrival prior to starting the day.
Moore Center Food Program:
  • All children will eat in their classrooms.
  • Delivery of food and pick up of dishes will take place on a strict schedule to minimize the number of staff in/out of the kitchen.
  • Meals will be pre-plated.
Face coverings:
  • Staff, adults and children age 5 and above must wear face coverings.
Additional cleaning practices will be practiced throughout the day.
  • Items in common areas such as door handles will be cleaned frequently throughout the day.
  • Classroom tables and counters will be cleaned after every use.
  • Disinfectant fogging of common areas will occur daily.
Confirmed case of COVID-19 protocol:
  • If a case of COVID-19 is confirmed in a classroom there will be a minimum of a 24 hour shut down of all contaminated areas for deep cleaning and sanitizing.
  • The CDC will be contacted immediately.
  • All CDC guidelines and guidance will be followed.

Drop off/pick up procedures to prevent anyone from entering the center other than staff and children and to promote social distancing.
  • Parents are required to walk children to the door when dropping off children and must wear a face covering.
  • Temperature checks will be done on all staff and children prior to entering the building.
  • All staff and children will sanitize hands prior to entering the building.
  • All staff and children must wear a mask and have it on prior to entering the building.
  • Drop off and pick up will take place outside of the center building at the #1 and #2 doors.
  • Waiting areas will be marked to promote social distancing.
  • A sign will be placed on the outside door with instructions for drop off or pick up in the absence of a staff person.

We are holding fitness classes and our weight room and cardio room are available for use by members and by those paying the daily user fee. Workout equipment has been moved throughout the building to accommodate social distancing while working out.

Members and those paying a daily user fee are allowed entry.
  • County-wide reciprocity only at this time (MDI YMCA and the Lawrence Center in Blue Hill).
  • Covid-19 waiver must be signed prior to entry.
  • New membership sales are allowed. But applicants from states that currently require quarantine may be asked to wait to use the facility until that quarantine has been completed.
  • Daily user fees are allowed.
  • Persons ages 11 and older are allowed in the facility independently.
  • Children under the age of 11 are not be allowed entry into weight/cardio rooms.
Guidelines limit the number allowed in the facility at one time.
  • Program entry (pool lap lanes and fitness classes) is pre-registration based and preference is given to pre-registered participants. To schedule pool time or reserve your space in fitness classes, use the links at the top of this page. 
  • Entry for weight/cardio rooms is on a first come first serve basis.
Members and staff are required to wear face coverings and follow the physical distancing code of conduct.
  • Face Coverings are required to enter and during your visit at all YMCA Buildings and entry and access will be denied for non-compliance per Executive Mandate 16 FY 20/21. Face coverings must be worn regardless of the ability to physical distance. The only exception is if you are in the pool or shower.
  • All staff will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment 
  • Code of Conduct instructions are posted clearly in lobby.
  • Code of Conduct instructions are reviewed with all members upon entry and at beginning of classes.
  • A 6-foot distance is required between all persons within the facility at all times.
  • Members are to use floor markings to maintain distance from staff.
  • No social seating is allowed. Chairs are available for physical limitations and footwear changes only.
All persons who enter the facility will be subject to a touch-free temperature check and will be required to answer screening questions.

  • Everyone is required to sanitize their hands before entering the facility at a hand sanitizing station.
  • Stations are available throughout the building.
  • Hygiene expectations are posted in the lobby upon entrance and throughout active areas of the facility.
Guidelines require that we limit the number of people in each area of the facility. Some equipment has been moved to different rooms to meet the guidelines.

Equipment has been arranged the proper distance apart. Please leave all equipment where it is currently located. All equipment is to be cleaned before and after each use with provided wipes and/or spray and paper towels. 

Weight Room

Maximum number of people in room: 10

  • 5 people allowed on each side of the weight room. (5 on left side, 5 on right side)
  • All equipment must be cleaned before and after each use using provided wipes and/or spray bottles of cleaner and paper towels
  • No supersets. Please work at one machine at a time
  • Ex. Enter one area, clean it, perform set(s), clean and leave that machine
  • There are no weight lifting sheets/ clipboard or pencils provided

Cardio Room

Maximum number of people: 7

  • Some equipment might be closed to ensure physical distancing
  • All equipment must be cleaned by each person before and after use
  • Equipment available for use in this room is:
    • Treadmill – 1, 3
    • Arc Trainer – 2, 4, 6
    • NuStep – 1, 2

TRX Room

Maximum number of people: 5

  • Each piece of equipment needs to be cleaned with wipes and/or spray cleaner and paper towels before and after each use
  • There are three sets of TRX straps for personal use. Please leave them where they are to ensure proper social distancing.
  • Equipment available for use in this room are:
    • Upright bikes 3, 4, 5
    • Rower 1, 2

Child Watch Area

Maximum number of people: 3

  • Each piece of equipment needs to be cleaned with wipes and/or spray cleaner and paper towels before and after each use.
  • Equipment in this room:
    • #12 Pec/Rear Delt machine
    • #4 Chest Press
    • Recumbent bike that was in weight room.

Kaufman Room

Maximum number of people: 3

  • Each piece of equipment needs to be cleaned with wipes and/or spray cleaner and paper towels before and after each use.
  • The climbing wall is closed until further notice.
  • Equipment in this room:
    • #15 ab crunch
    • #7 tricep machine
    • Roman Chair

Small equipment has been moved to the gym until further notice. If no fitness class is in session, come on in and get what you need. 

Gym – Group Exercise Classes

Maximum number of people: 20

  • Gym will be closed to others during group exercise classes
  • Participant spots are marked on the floor to ensure social distancing and are to be used while in the gym. 
  • Any equipment used during class is to be cleaned before and after use with provided wipes and/or spray and paper towels. 
  • There are six TRX mounts in the gym. One set is left for independent use, the others are held for class use or with permission from fitness staff.

Gym – Basketball Court

  • 1 person per hoop. Must use YMCA disinfected equipment.
  • Basketball is only allowed on the farther end of the gym to protect fitness equipment now stored in the gym.
  • Basketball is only allowed when fitness classes are not in session.
  • See front desk or other staff to get the curtain closed before starting to play basketball.

Gym Cardio Equipment

  • Available in this room:
    • Recumbent bikes 1, 2, 6
    • Indoor cycle bikes
    • Stair climber 1,2
    • Hand cycle bike
  • Small (handheld) and group fitness class equipment is also being stored in the gym. If you want to use any, please clean before and after use with provided wipes and/or spray and return all equipment to gym shelving. 
Fitness classes are limited in size and require pre-registration.
  • Fitness classes are limited to 19 participants and an instructor.
  • Due to potential unseen risks associated with fitness and the current COVID-19 pandemic, members are required to sign a waiver prior to attending any in-person class. A waiver will be provided at the class or you can download a waiver here and bring it to your first class or complete the Online Waiver Form (for Barcode, enter the number you use when entering the building).
  • Signing up for classes is easy. To sign up, use the new DEFY APP or call the front desk 667-3086. Learn about the DEFY APP here.
  • If you need to cancel a class registration, call 667-3086 or cancel on the APP to remove your name from the class roster and open a spot for a fellow member. People who register and don’t show up without canceling can be prohibited from registering for future classes.
  • If space is not available in a class, you can add your name to a wait list using the App and you will be notified if a space becomes available prior to the start of the class.
  • Fitness classes are currently being held in the gym or TRX room.

  • You need to make choices about what equipment and when it is best for you to use each piece of equipment based on who is in the space with you. It is the responsibility of everyone to stay physically distant from all other members (at least 6’) for the duration of your visit at The Y. 

Facility Restriction 6 Patrons

Patrons
  • All patrons will be screened upon entry (i.e CDC questions, Temp checks, hands sanitized etc.).
  • All patrons are required to wear a mask at all times.
  • All patrons are required to wash their hands, at the sink inside fitness room prior to touching any gym equipment
  • If a patron is feeling ill or showing any symptoms we highly encourage them to stay home.
Staff
  • All staff must stay home if feeling sick or showing any symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Staff are required to wear a mask when social distancing cannot be maintained and when they enter any part of the school.
Capacity
  • A maximum of six patrons are allowed in the fitness center at one time.
  • A one-hour time limit will be enforced once we’ve reached capacity and have another patron waiting to enter.
    • Example; John arrives at 5 to work out and within his hour 5 others arrive. At 6:15 Liz arrives. Staff will advise Liz that we are at capacity and if she can enter in 15 minutes. Staff will advise the person who arrived, John, that he has 15 mins before his hour is up to allow Liz to enter.
Sanitation
  • Staff will spray and wipe down all equipment, entry door handles, locker room etc. prior to opening, by the hour and prior to ending their shift
  • Staff will initial and time stamp when sanitation is complete.
  • Sanitizer will be available throughout the fitness center.
Equipment
  • Equipment available for use will be a minimum of six feet from other available equipment.
  • Some equipment will be roped/taped off and will not be available for use.
Locker Room
  • The locker rooms are available for restroom usage only.
  • Showering and changing is not permitted.
Water Bottles
  • Staff and patrons may bring their own water bottle but cannot share with anyone else.
  • No food is allowed in the fitness center.
Entering the Building
  • Patrons will enter through the YMCA door located in front of the Jewett School.
  • Patrons must ring the doorbell when they arrive, a YMCA staff member will screen them and let them in.
