Lyndsy Patten Clough
Ellsworth

Lindsy Clough

Since her children started playing sports, Lyndsy has spent most of her “free” time volunteering to work in one snack shack or another or coaching. When her daughter was younger she coached basketball and for over a decade she has been involved with the Ellsworth Little League coaching T-ball, farm league, minor league and major league softball. Lyndsy is a long-standing Little League board member and currently serves as the Board President. Over the years, she has dedicated countless hours to ensuring the success of the league - from working in the snack shack or calling donors to raking fields or communicating with parents and coaches. Lyndsy is also a member of the Ellsworth Rotary Club where she is active in ensuring the success of their projects. When Lyndsy isn’t working or volunteering, you will most likely find her on the sidelines with her husband Mike supporting their children, Mikey and Camryn.

Mary Crawley & Sandra Wight

You can find Mary in her coffee room Monday to Friday from 6am to noon meeting and greeting our members for coffee and conversation. Our members appreciate her smile and welcoming presence.

Sandra Wight has been an active member and volunteer at the Blue Hill Y for the past year and a half. She is the other half of our coffee and conversation room. If Mary is absent, Sandra takes over. She is a vital part of our crochet group. Sandra also motivates and leads groups around our indoor track. Last year she personally walked 772 miles around our track and continues to be a role model for our members.

From leading the charge in fundraising for youth and middle school football, to helping at the scorers table for rec basketball, to guiding a smooth transition to new leadership for Little League, her countless hours volunteering have made a difference for so many young people. Katie is a remarkable person and always one of the first to step up to the plate and help the community in any way she can. She doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Everything Katie does, she does with her heart and her love for the community. If she isn’t spending time with her boys or at her daily job, you can typically find her helping set up or planning an event.

Service to Youth Award

Miranda Engstrom
Ellsworth

Miranda has worked with children in Hancock County for over 20 years. She was a YMCA employee with our Afterschool program and helped our YMCA Day Camp transition from a hot-top camp located at the Wiggins Center to the more traditional summer camp when we purchased the property that is now Camp Discovery. Miranda started her teaching career as the Kindergarten teacher at the Surry School and now is the Reading Recovery, Title One, and Gifted and Talented teacher at the Lamoine School, where she was recently awarded the 2023 Hancock County Teacher of the Year and Skills USA's Maine Middle School Advisor of the Year. Miranda excels at extracting unrealized talents from all the children she encounters. From leading Lamoine's Odyssey of the Mind and Skills USA, where her team has advanced to Nationals the last 2 years, to her volunteer efforts with students with developmental disabilities. She was instrumental in starting both the Y's Blue Lobster program and Lamoine's Unified Sports program.

Marco & Kristian Campbell
Bucksport

From setting up for youth sports events, to helping supervise open gym for kids to have some with family and friends to coaching youth basketball, Marco and Kristian help tremendously in any way they can. Their greatest impact has been on the Bucksport youth basketball program. This past season, Marco and Kristian coached kindergarten through 3rd grade, working with over 60 kids. They arrive early to help Matt set up for games or practice and they embrace every kid with the same amount of respect and love. The energy and positive attitude they put into coaching is unmatched going above and beyond to helping kids develop the fundamentals, teaching how to work within a team and spreading a love for the game. The current success of Bucksport’s youth basketball program and its future potential are in large part the product of Marco and Kristian’s contributions.

Mike Astbury
Blue Hill

Mike Astbury

Mike Astbury has been volunteering in our youth sports program since the transition from the Town of Blue Hill Rec program to the YMCA Youth Sports. Before the YMCA became involved in youth sports in the area, Mike coached in the rec program for many years. His goal has always been to give back and provide the best experience for the kids. Mike’s knowledge and experience with coaching played a vital role in the transition of the youth sports program. Mike and his brother have been instrumental in making sure we have the appropriate equipment. Last fall they donated balls and goals to our soccer program. Mike has helped coach all sports - even teams that he does not have kids on because he wanted to make sure the kids had a coach. His love for sports mixed with his passion for helping kids in our community has had an incredible impact to our organization and community.
