Brooks’ Story

Brooks on the Elliptical

Brooks with trainerBrooks is a busy guy. He works in the kitchen at The Moore Early Learning Center. When he is done there, he heads The Wiggins Center for some time on the arc trainer and some personal training with fitness staff. Afterwards, he checks in with CEO Peter Farragher about the day’s news and with maintenance director Bob Dyer about sports, and then he heads to his church to help prepare for Ellsworth’s Everybody Eats meals. Brooks attends DEF YMCA road races although he says his favorite part is when they are done and he has crossed the finish line. He says the same thing, jokingly, about his personal training sessions with fitness director Robin Clarke.

When the YMCA was shut down this spring, Brooks walked on Newbury Neck in his hometown of Surry but just felt it wasn’t the same. He missed his routine with The Y and volunteer opportunities filling his days.

Brooks has been a regular at The Y since 2009 and when he was able to come back after the COVID-19 shutdown this spring he was excited. Excited to see the staff and members, excited to start back to his job, his workout routine, his arc trainer and what he calls his regular routine. We are glad to have him back with his smile, great work ethic and good conversation.
