The sun was shining and the water was warm for the 23rd Annual Bill Reeve Echo Lake Swim. Kristy Barry finished first in the 500 yard swim, Sam Pelletier finished first in the 1.5 Mile Swim and the relay of Kristy Barry and Nick Partridge set a new course record for the fastest relay swim.
Hometowns ranged from Bar Harbor and Ellsworth, to Brooklyn, NY and Newport Beach, Ca. “This event attracts swimmers from all over,” said race director Matt Montgomery. “We’ve had people plan their Maine vacations around this event for many years.”
Race founder Bill Reeve was on hand to watch the race. He started the swim in 1995 with a handful of Master swimmers from Ellsworth and MDI as a way to break the monotony of lap swimming.
Kristy Barry, 14, won the 500 yard swim in a time of 6:23.07. She was followed by Maks Grover, 23, as the top male finisher in a time of 6:37.45. Other age-group winners included:

Sam Pelletier, 16, took first in the 1.5 mile swim with a time of 35:59.19. Emma Farnham, 14, was the top female to finish with a time of 39:29.81.
